Halloween may have gone, but that doesn’t mean pumpkins should be.

Pumpkins offer amazing health benefits. Let’s go over some of the reasons why you should add a pumpkin (or a can of plain pumpkin puree) to your grocery cart!

  • benefits of pumpkinsHigh in fiber: Want to lose some weight? Pumpkins can help thanks to their fiber content, which helps fill you up and keeps you from splurging between meals. Just one cup of pumpkin has more fiber than two servings of whole-grain bread. Awesome, right? Fiber also aids in digestion, which we can all appreciate!
  • Low in calories: Did you know that canned pumpkin has less than 55-60 calories per serving? If you’re on the lookout for a food that gives you that feeling of being full and doesn’t destroy your waistline, pumpkin might be the answer!
  • Rich in vitamins: One of the most amazing health benefits of pumpkins is the fact that they pack a hefty dose of vitamins. You’ll get Vitamin A, which has been shown to improve eye health and strengthen your immune system. You’ll also get a good dose of Vitamin C, which is very helpful during cold and flu season.
  • Great for skin: Pumpkin contains beta-carotene, which helps fight the effects of the sun’s harmful UV rays. It also can be turned into a fantastic face mask! Stir together one-quarter cup of pureed pumpkin, a tablespoon each of milk and honey, and an egg. Leave it on your skin for approximately 20 minutes before rinsing. Who knew that a Halloween staple could make you look younger, too?
